Species:

angustata

Observation Notes:

Had long greenish-blue glow lasting several seconds, will hopefully return to collect specimens. My professor mentioned how in previous years he has seen an abundance of these fireflies throughout the woods on this property at that same time of year. I noticed the IUCN mentions "The population size and trend are not known for Pyractomena angustata, although it is likely in decline (Lloyd 2018). While possible sightings have been reported in recent years, this species has always been very rare and spatially limited, and no verified occurrences have been reported recently (Lloyd 2018). Surveys are needed in historic collection localities to ensure this species remains extant." Identified tentatively by Richard Joyce of the Xerces Society. Observations uploaded to iNaturalist under observation 272553008 Flying between open longleaf pine savannah and pine woods with lots of shrubbery.
