  1. Thanks for submitting this incidental firefly observation! This is a firefly in the genus Photuris, which you can tell by the long legs and hunched posture (the “shoulders” are higher than the head shield). In my experience Photuris often find their way through window screens into houses– probably attracted by artificial light.

    There are 5 species of Photuris known from Connecticut, and flash pattern details (from a displaying male) and a photo of the underside are generally needed for identification.
