Habitat Type:
Developed - Sub/urban areas; parks/gardens
Habitat Type Notes:
I am cultivating a "food forest" in my fairly small backyard. I'm located in Norfolk, VA, with houses on both sides of me, and the berm to 64 West immediately behind my property line. This is approx. .25 acre of land. A mature Laurel Oak is the primary tree, with a mature hackberry in close proximity; there is a row of approx. 12 mature elderberry bushes, 2 immature American Hazelnut bushes, mature blueberry bushes, and numerous other native plants. Leaf litter is left on the ground, and I have 3 debris piles where branches, grasses & pruned debris is left. Multiple native bird species (Blue Jays, Cardinals, Carolina Wrens, Northern Mocking birds & others migrating thru).
