Observation

Observation Type:

Flashing

Number Observed:

11-50

Genus:

Pyractomena

Species:

dispersa

Observation Notes:

Approximately 15 individuals seen flashing along the East Fork Black River and another unnamed creek to the west of the spring-fed pond south of the Forest Service Rd 249. Site was not accessed directly (access not permitted) but was viewed from roadside above. Site was visually checked after other firefly surveys in the area, so it is likely the activity period for the species was winding to a close for the night. Habitat looks ideal (seen earlier in the day in the daylight) and it is possible there are many more fireflies here. No photographs taken.
