Observation

Observation Type:

Flashing

Number Observed:

11-50

Genus:

Photinus

Species:

pyralis

Observation Notes:

In 10 second timing...number of FF: 12, 10, 9. Colors: Red/Orange, green, white At this time of year, once the cicadas start singing, the FF don't stay in one area for long where you can time the time between flashes. They're in one spot and then gone, where as earlier summer, I suspect in the 10 sec timings, the same one is counted up to 3 times. Has anyone ever likened counting FF to doing a vision field test, where you keep your eyes facing forward and try to find as many light flashes around you. Think that was great training to counting FFs.
