Location and Habitat

Location Accuracy (meters):

0-25

Habitat Type:

Woodland/Forest - Trees dominant, and in the over-story

Habitat Type Notes:

[Note - this habitat note is for Azalea Point, where most fireflies were netted]. The site had two habitat types due to the steep elevation change present. The higher elevation area included a deciduous forest with a relatively open ground cover. The lower site was in a gully with more dense ground cover than the upland site. The deciduous forest reached all the way to the small stream at the bottom of the gully and both the tree canopy and understory became more dense as elevation decreased. The moonlight penetration at the start of the survey was minimal but increased throughout the night and became substantial by 9:30PM. There was a slight breeze present in the bottom of the gully during the survey.
