Neat observation!
The insect in the photograph is not a firefly, but it is a beetle: a wedge-shaped beetle in the genus Macrosiagon. These beetles are actually parasites of bees and wasps– the larva will jump onto bees and wasps visiting flowers and then ride back to their nests, where they burrow into the bee/wasp larvae.
