There is some sky glow along the greenway. However, in the woods the dense tree cover makes it very dark. The fireflies in this survey were caught along the greenway.

This firefly was flashing from some long grass. I was searching for a brachypterous female Photinus tenuicinctus, and when I looked at this one in the grass, it appeared to be brachypterous.
However, when I was able to examine it closely and photograph it, it didn't match what I was expecting. Instead, it appears to be a Photuris female that is perhaps deformed or undeveloped.
The flash appeared to be green.

Interesting find! Based on the pale hind coxae and the large body size, I wonder if this could be Photuris lucicrescens. The other Photuris with pale hind coxae are hebes and missouriensis.
